ตระกูลนาคเป็นสัตว์ดุร้ายเจ้าโทสะ ได้รับกระทบกระทั่งแม้เกน้อยก็โกรธอาจเผาผลาญผู้ที่ตนพบเห็นหรือฉกกัดได้ ผู้ที่กลัวงูทั้งหลายจึงหาวิธีป้องกันงูในลักษณะต่างๆ อันนำมาซึ่งความผูกอาฆาตพยาบาทผูกเวรกันต่อไปข้ามชาติ เช่น ตีงูจนหลังหัก หรือตายก็มี

ถ้าจบอาหารก่อนใส่บาตร แล้วไม่ได้กรวดน้ำ คนที่เราอุทิศให้จะได้รับผลบุญไหม

การอธิษฐานเป็นการสร้างอธิษฐานบารมี ตั้งความปรารถนามุ่งผลอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งเพื่อตนเอง ส่วนการกรวดน้ำเป็นอาหารแสดงการอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้ผู้อื่น ถ้าให้แก่คนที่อายุน้อยกว่าเรา ก็เป็นลักษณะของ เมตตาบารมี ถ้าให้กับผู้ที่เป้นผู้ใหญ่กว่าเรา มีพระคุณแก่เรา นั่นเป็นการแสดงกตัญญูกตเวที
